The Summerland Minor Baseball Association (SMBA) has initiated the 'Field 96 Project' to restore the baseball diamonds at Living Memorial Park in Summerland. This project is intended to transform the premier 'Field 2' into a modern and safer ball field. Upgrades include restoring both the infield and outfield surfaces, fencing improvements and extensions to meet current baseball standards.
This Project is being spearheaded by Jeff and Melissa Taylor, who lost their 16-year-old son, Hendriks, following the 2024 Spring Season. Hendriks played baseball in Summerland alongside his younger brother and his dad as the coach. Hendriks’ jersey number was “96”.
The Field 96 project is currently a finalist in the Jays Cares Field of Dreams Grant. In addition, Summerland and surrounding communities have rallied together to help SMBA and the Taylor family reach their $750k goal. The gofundme has surpassed $76k and is continuing to grow.
